Hot on the Highstreet Week 225

Courtesy Vogue we have a sneak preview of the newest highstreet collaboration, Alexander Wang for H&M. As always with Wang, colour is non-existent, everything is super-sporty, in hues of black, white and grey.

Lots of pieces look like they have been pulled directly from Wang’s past collections, like the classic white dress or the hooded black coat, which resembles a pre-Autumn 2014 look. The line is scheduled to hit stores on November 6th…. I cannot wait.

Hot on the Highstreet Week 127

The most recent fashion collaboration between avant-garde Belgian designer Martin Margiela and highstreet H&M is a spin on recycling chic… seriously quirky and cool… but will these pieces actually look good on?

MM encourages narrative with his thoughtful garments; each piece in the H&M line will come with a label telling the wearer which year and from what collection the garment originates. The collection is made up of 70 items: 40 for women and 30 for men, all based on originals from the epic Margiela archive. The clothes vary, some more wearable than others. Characteristics central to the brand’s success (oversizing, asymmetry, exposed stitching) will all feature heavily in the H&M line. Classics like wool coats, tailored outfits and denim will be available though it is likely to be the crazier designs that sell out first.

I’ve got my eye on the wacky accessories range: clutches that mimic sweetie wrappers, horsehair necklaces, hi-top trainers and ‘invisible’ perspex heels. With the recent gust of cold air, the coat made from a duvet (complete with removable cover) also sounds very appealing. The unconventional and creative aesthetics of Martin Margiela are not totally out of sync with this season’s trends and will undoubtedly be very successful with fashionistas everywhere keen to snap up iconic pieces at high street prices.

This H&M collaboration is more high end than every before, I predict chaos at the high street stores.

Hits the shops on 2nd November, see you in the queue.
