It is always a treat to walk into a Hakkasan Restaurant. The lighting is low, the scent of incense is intense and the staff make you feel you have arrived at the venue for a special occasion. So when I was invited to try the new Tea and Dim Sum lunch menu at Hakkasan Mayfair, I asked my dad to join me and we set a date in the diary.
The Tea and Dim Sum menu is available from 12 noon to 6.15 pm everyday at Hakkasan Mayfair and costs £42.00 per person. For that price you receive this menu of dim sum favourites:
Char sui bun
XO scallop and prawn dumpling
Black truffle and chicken roll
Baked venison puff
Crispy beancurd cheung fun
Desserts – Matcha apple custard bun, Seasonal fruit platter and Macarons
Tea – a choice of Dragons Well Tea or White Peony Tea
We both chose to order the White Peony Tea which has a wonderfully delicate flavour, the perfect warm but refreshing drink to complement the strong dim sum dishes. The menu has a selection of familiar recipes I’ve tried and loved before and a few new additions. Every bite is so carefully made and cooked we relished it all, but favourites included; the irresistible Baked venison puffs which were made of buttery pastry and filled with sweet and tender meat, Crispy beancurd cheung fun, a celebration of different textures with an aromatic sauce and Stir-fry asparagus which was blissfully simple but utterly delicious.
Chinese desserts can be a bit hit or miss but at Hakkasan the pastry chefs are always en point. A platter of immaculate cakes and fruit arrived for us to indulge in, including beautiful little macarons flavoured with salted caramel and vanilla.
The Tea and Dim Sum menu is a great way to sample the best of the Hakkasan offering. Pop in for a tasty lunch in between gallery viewing or shopping in the area.
