Anse Chastanet: Things to do, St Lucia, Caribbean

Yoga: Available at both Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain, these early morning yoga classes will energise your body and clear your mind ready for the day ahead.

Spa: Discreet and modest, this lovely little spa offers indulgent treatments as well as hair styling and manicures so you look your best at all times. We both had luxurious massages with soothing oils and emerged totally relaxed and refreshed.

Burgers at Anse Mamin: Get a short water taxi ride round to the next bay where the chef is carefully assembling freshly grilled bread and burgers. It is great food and a beautifully quiet and peaceful setting. Look out for the wonderful hand-placed rock formations which took eight years to build.

Sunset Cruise: This boat tour is the most popular at Anse Chastanet. Guests climb on board at 4pm and sail the small colourful boat into the sunset, past the Pitons and back in time for supper. Rum punch and canapés are complimentary on board, and keep your eyes alert as you may see a group of dolphins playing beside the boat.

Apsara: This truly unique dining experience combines Caribbean and Indian cuisines to present spicy, original food. Cooked just metres away from the tables, the chefs explain the cooking processes while you watch and decide what to eat. I thought the grilled lamb cutlets were particularly delicious.

Watersports: Wherever you go on the island, St Lucians recommend Anse Chastanet for the best watersports and aquatic activities. With awesome beaches and reefs, this area is ideal for seeing a variety of marine life. Anse Chastanet offers kayaking and snorkelling free of charge and a team of diving experts are on hand to teach all levels, beginners and up.

Fine Dining in St. Lucia

photos from our cooking class and meal with Orlando

There are numerous dining options in St. Lucia. Many of the best chefs mix traditional Caribbean flavours and produce with other cuisines and techniques to create innovative and exciting fine dining.

Orlando’s: One evening at C’est La Vie we had a special guest. Orlando (or Share the Love Chef as he calls himself) gave us an enthusiastic cooking demonstration and a dinner that was truly delicious and very memorable. Born in England, Orlando moved to St. Lucia thirteen years ago and has since been promoting Caribbean cuisine and the vibrant flavours so readily available in this climate. His first solo restaurant has just opened in Souffriere, St. Lucia and promises to be magnificent. http://www.sharethelovechef.com/bio.html

The Cliff at Cap Maison: Cap Maison is placed on the edge of a cliff as the name makes clear. After a very informative wine tasting, we were treated to an exceptional meal at the restaurant. In my opinion, the food here is Michelin-star standard, I couldn’t fault the Sweet Pea with White Truffle Risotto or the Braised Kobe Short Rib. http://capmaison.com/

East Winds: A more rustic but equally exciting place to eat… East Winds is a unique all-inclusive boutique resort with a generous patch of beach and lovely facilities. At lunchtime the hotel restaurant offers a great buffet where we tried Caribbean classics like beef roti, fish stew and fresh salads. I’d also recommend the tropical Pina Colada. http://www.eastwinds.com/home.php

A few other fine restaurants I heard complimented during our stay in St. Lucia are the following: Hotel Chocolat, The Edge, Ladera and Jade Mountain.

Soleil Spa at The Landings Hotel, St Lucia

The Gym and Soleil Spa at the Landings is as popular with visitors as it is with hotel guests. With impressive facilities and a wide range of treatments, it provides a lovely refuge out of the sun for an hour or two of solace and relaxation.

We went along after breakfast to try the joint couple’s massage, a blissful treatment for two. The changing rooms are filled with every lotion and potion you could ever need, including suncream and mouthwash; showers, a sauna and a whirlpool are available as well.

After changing into comfortable robes and slippers, we were led down a candlelit corridor and taken to our shared room. Face down on the bed, I noticed the spices on the floor ensuring there was an aromatic scent in the air.

The massages were divine, calming and relaxing. My masseuse asked me early on if the pressure was okay before continuing, and I drifted in and out of sleep as she used sweet smelling oils to work away the tension in my back and legs.

The Landings Spa is a destination in itself and is a great asset to the hotel. There are always great offers to help you get the best value from your spa experience.
