The greatest thing about denim is its versatility… distressed, torn, dyed, embroidery, anything is possible. A perfect pair of jeans can be irreplaceable. The King of Denim, Levi’s has introduced a tailoring shop in their flagship Regent’s Street store, so customers can get festival ready with ripped shorts or a personalised jacket.

Pick your garment from the store (or bring in a pre-loved piece of Levi’s clothing) then choose your design your item at the tailoring counter. You can be as creative as you like, choosing from the range of customisations on offer. Your vision will then be bought to life by the in-house tailors. I chose to have my name emblazoned on the back left of some summery mini shorts, but you can also had studs or rips.

No matter how many colourful, slogan, patterned t-shirts you own it is always the plain timeless tees that get the most wear. You can never have too many classic white, black and grey tops, they work equally well with scruffy jeans or a smart pencil skirt. A comforting garment that will never let you down.

Maison Labiche is a combined effort from two Parisian friends, one being a stylist (Maison) and one being a designer (Labiche). Their aim is to breathe new life into basics without resorting to in-your-face graphics and loud prints. The duo’s shared love of timeless style has resulted in them name-checking past and present famous places, songs and people on their garments.

The brand’s signature cotton t-shirts feature heart embroidered detailing and come finished with a pre-rolled sleeve. Those looking for more warmth or a casual weekend throw-on-and-go piece can opt for an equally timeless grey, burgundy or navy sweater.

I’ve always loved the traditional French handwriting font, it has a pretty innocence about it as well as looking retro inspired. These t-shirts are unisex and will be hand-embroidered with your word or words of choice (up to 15 characters) in a variety of cotton thread colours.

The idea behind these personalised tees is to wear something simple that you love, close by to your heart. My ‘modern milly’ tee is on its way to me, order your very own here or visit an Urban Outfitters store, prices from £50. Humble but effortlessly stylish Maison Labiche let you put your stamp on your favourite fashion staples.

The best tailors seem to be located on the other side of the world… my brother is currently getting a full suit made up in Vietnam’s Hoi An, while I am ordering a personalised shirt from Australia!

Tailors Mark is an online provider of custom designed, made to measure business and dress shirts for men and women. Tailors Mark promises to offer an unparalleled extensive selection of fabrics with every imaginable tailoring option to make the shirt original and completely unique. The Tailors Mark website is very UK user friendly and, despite the distance, this company remains totally at the service of the customer with a very active twitter account and very effective communication – I was amazed by the immediate email response when I had a question. The online shop shows 3D imagery displaying your shirt as you design it, making this interactive experience clever and fun.

Keen to create a shirt inspired by the Thoroughly Modern Milly brand, I opted for the bright red and white striped 100% cotton, with striking blue buttons. Each step is easy to complete with a simple lay-out for even the most impatient customers! I added in some quirky detailing; a left pocket, Milanese cuffs and best of all, a Milly monogram inside the collar. I am counting down the days until my very particular personalised shirt arrives.

The prices are surprisingly reasonable, a fully tailored shirt will cost you under £100, a fraction of the Savile Row price and around half the price of an equivalent garment sold via traditional retail.

It may be located far away but Tailors Mark makes its service accessible to customers all over the world offering top class customer support and three week express delivery wherever you are. Don’t conform to high street specifications, design your perfect shirt today with Tailors Mark.
