New York Manicure, The Chelsea Day Spa

After discovering a real lack of nail bars in London, I’ve been on the hunt for places to indulge my fingers and toes. Satisfying the endless needs of Chelsea girls, The Chelsea Day Spa provides a huge variety of services: facials, waxing, eye treatments, nail therapies and massages.

The Spa opened in October 2011 on chic Hollywood Road. Sister spa to the popular The Chelsea Day Spa on King’s Road, this smaller venue is quieter and more discreet, the ideal place for a morning of pampering. It is an intimate and relaxing venue with carefully chosen ranges of face, body and nail treatments and products, three cosy treatment rooms and nail bar. There is a team of highly qualified therapists who perform the luxurious treatments.

The Chelsea Day Spa Boutique also offers basic grooming and express treatments for both men and women which include waxing with Perron Rigot, eyelash and brow tinting, plus express manicures, pedicures and ‘everlasting’ gels with Jessica. Light refreshments are available for visitors; parched after my manicure I tasted their delicious orange hinted water.

I tried the very popular New York manicure which is an ongoing offer – a high gloss, low cost, speedy treatment to smarten up your nails.

My expert beautician carefully soaked, cut, filed and shaped my nails working on my cuticles, with a lovely hand massage, moisturising and polish. Apparently while sitting in the nail bar you can watch various episodes of Sex and The City and enjoy light refreshments but sadly none of this was offered to me. The manicurist was efficient but I was a little disappointed that she wasn’t more friendly, she seemed distracted and barely spoke to me at all, maybe she was just concentrating on my nails, which she tidied and polished immaculately. The brightly coloured Jessica nail polishes on display looked great ordered by colour. I was very indecisive choosing a colour but I eventually opted for a vibrant pink with funky dark purple tips.

Nail Porn Opening at Tommy Guns, Regent Street

Nail art and design is the moment’s hottest and perhaps most accessible fad; anyone and everyone can beautify and personalise their nails. I am a big enthusiast especially after designing my own Thoroughly Modern Milly nails for my recent launch party.

The newest nail bar comes from creative Sophy Robson with her radical Nail Porn. Her clever and chic designs delight customers at Hari’s on the King’s Road and now her second outlet has opened in Central London. I was invited along to Superdry on Regent Street last week to celebrate the opening of the hip new Tommy Guns salon here. This location has always been a barbers, and now the venue is fully restored to its former glory with original tiling and stunning lighting. Even with the frenzied crowd, this salon looked swish and sophisticated. In one corner a supercool beauty parlour houses a luscious lash bar, blow dry station and of course, Nail Porn for naughty nails.

A-lister guests and journalists drunk fizzy prosecco, munched on top notch canapés and desperately tried to get in the queue for the treatments. Arriving after opening time I missed the chance to get my nails done…but I’m hoping to review Sophy’s delicious nail art properly soon with a review to follow on Thoroughly Modern Milly.

Coco’s Nail Bar, Portobello

In my opinion there aren’t enough nail bars in London… I love nail colours and design so much I’d have my nails done every day if I could. Trying out the newest art and technology in this field is great fun and exotic nails can accessorise an outfit perfectly.

Last weekend while the rain poured copiously outside, I enjoyed a little pampering in Coco’s Nail Bar on Portobello Road. I’m not sure why I’ve never spotted this place, located in the middle of London’s most famous market it is the ideal location for tired shoppers.

Inside, the salon is smart and chic with a girly theme. Coco’s is one of a kind… the only nail bar I’ve visited with a fully stocked bar and barman: cocktails, champagne, coffee are all on offer. I enjoyed a specially made virgin mojito while getting my nails done. The salon is fully equipped with everything you need for hand and foot pampering including tanks filled with darting little fish for Fish Spa therapy.

I chose to try the Coco Signature Pedicure, the ultimate nail maintenance and grooming with cuticle treatment, cleansing, massage and paraffin therapy with heated mitts, designed to leave your feet soft and silky. All while sitting in a very comfortable stress-buster massage chair. Minx is a technique I have been desperate to try for some time and at Coco they adapted the pedicure so that I could have the minx. The whole treatment was very thorough and relaxing, my nails felt so clean and tidy! With a special hot lamp the gold foil minx is melted onto the nail then trimmed and smoothed down, the final look is psychedelic and amazing!

I highly recommend Coco’s Nail Bar, either for a quick fix polish and paint manicure or for a luxurious longer treatment.
