Summer Dresses for Every Occasion

Summer is the season for weddings and party dresses, and I always find it a challenge picking the perfect outfit for each occasion. So I’ve put together a selection of my favourite frocks for every kind of event.

City Escape

For city exploring I prefer something loose fitting and versatile. A long shirt or t-shirt dress is ideal, and is especially easy if you are going to be trying on clothes in the high street boutiques. This Zara dress is fun and full of personality with a cute cartoon avocado print all over it. It is a bargain too, priced at just $15.

Wedding

For a wedding it is important to get the right look, you don’t want to feel inadequate with a casual dress and must avoid clashing with the bride. For a summer bash I prefer a pop of colour, something that gives off a positive, happy vibe. This sophisticated Off the Shoulder wrap dress from Topshop gives off the retro filmstar feel whilst remaining demure and suitably below the knee.

Festival Fun

Floaty and floral is always a good look for festivals, but I also love striking prints, and they will help your friends find you in the crowds. This Vila smock dress is made from printed woven fabric with a scoop neckline and ladder sleeve trims. The dress is 100% viscose so is easy to machine wash when you get back from a muddy weekend away.

Rooftop drinks

When the sun comes out the rooftop bars get busy… there is something wonderfully refreshing about sipping a Friday beverage with the wind in your hair and a cityscape view. The hipsters aim for effortlessly chic outfit whilst in the centre of town the dresscode certainly seems to more smart and glamorous. For a Friday night al fresco I think this embroidered sleeveless dress from Le Redoute is lovely, pretty without being too dramatic.

Day out at the beach

I love going to the seaside and always take a light beach dress to throw over my bikini. Whether you prefer something sporty or girly there are plenty of beachy outfits in the shops at the moment. This loose fitting IRO dress is ideal made from light weight ecru crepe with adjustable straps and ruffled layers. Best of all this white garment will accentuate a tan, whether its the first or last day of the holiday.

Everlasting summer with SmartBuyGlasses

I am currently on a five month trip around the world. While it is pouring with rain in England, I am enjoying the Californian sun where chic sunglasses are essential. Luckily, SmartBuyGlasses kitted me out with designer specs before I left the country so I’m all set for the beach.

I cannot recommend this online company enough. Offering 80,000 products, with over 180 brands there really is a pair for everyone, whether you like classic and conventional or unique and stand-out shades. This worldwide brand distribute globally and provide free and fast delivery (those in stock and marked “Fast Shipping” will arrive on your doorstep within 48 hours).

Conscious of giving something back, SmartBuyGlasses donates a pair of glasses for each pair purchased to their charity partners through their “Buy One, Give One” programme. They have donated over £1.8m worth of glasses to date.

If you need some help choosing the perfect pair, the buying guides offer insight into which celebrity is wearing which sunglasses! There is also a 24/7 online chat facility available to answer questions and some glasses even feature a “virtual try on” so you can check which frames suit you before ordering. But if you are unsure when your glasses arrive you have 100 days to return or exchange them.

SmartBuyGlasses guarantee the best price and all pairs come with a 2 year warranty. With each pair of glasses bought you will receive a free case and lens kit. I chose two contrasting pairs of sunglasses to cover every occasion. The Celine Caty are glamorous and make a statement. The oversized cats-eye, ‘Havana’ tortoiseshell frame give the wearer a vintage movie star look, and are perfect for days out in LA. Despite their size they are light and comfortable to wear, and will look good worn night and day. The striking Rayban Clubmasters are the ideal unisex holiday sunnies. I decided on the blue flash lenses, and despite the fun appearance, they still provide great protection from harmful rays.

Anyone who has talked to me for any longer than 5 minutes knows that I am a big fan of Uniqlo, which I love for its very reasonably priced, good-quality basics. This striped oxford shirt, available in 3 different colours, provides a little variation to their block coloured varieties and will look great by itself with a dark pair of jeans or under a casual blazer as it gets colder.

Brooks Brothers is a classic American brand with a long heritage in classic menswear with solid construction and high quality materials, designed to last. It’s the variation in stripe width and beautiful pastel colours that make this oxford shirt stand out for me. It’s from its Red Fleece line, which is designed with a slimmer, more modern cut.

Indigo is an incredibly versatile shade of blue and this Billy Reid patchwork shirt makes great use of it. This piece is tailor made for a blue tonal look, paired with jeans and a navy jacket. Alternatively, treat it as an over-shirt, worn over a basic white t-shirt.

If you are going to spend a lot of money on a shirt, why not make a statement. This stunning patterned shirt from Marni certainly does that and will elevate your entire look. When wearing bold patterns it is best to keep what you pair with it relatively simple to let the design stand out; a slim pair of dark trousers will do the job perfectly.

£310 Marni here.
