Paul Edmonds hairdresser, Chelsea

It was a bold move going back to brunette, and I knew I could not achieve the final result immediately. I’m slowly learning that it takes time to completely change your hair colour! I went along to smart salon Paul Edmonds in Knightsbridge to freshen the brunette shade with warm highlights and a consultation from a top colourist.

The salon is suitably smart and sassy, ideal for Chelsea’s elite. I walked in spluttering and coughing, feeling unwell and in need of a little pampering.

After hearing about all the details of my hair (including the sun exposure it was about to receive in Morocco), my colourist, Alison was clear and informative about what highlights would work best. We decided on a t-section of very fine subtle honey highlights, to lighten and soften the harsh all over brown and create a more summery look.

Alison was a star, colouring my hair efficiently whilst attending to my every need: magazines, soothing ginger tea and tissues for my constant sneezing. I certainly felt it was a better and more enjoyable cure than lying bored in bed.

After an invigorating wash and blissful head massage, my friendly and bubbly stylist Justyna trimmed my split ends and blowdried my hair with a natural wave and lots of volume.

Initially the colour seemed faint but as soon as I walked outside the colour beamed, a natural, lovely sunkissed look ready for my trip to Morocco! The Paul Edmonds salon is a relaxing place to spend a morning and the staff are professional and experienced, striving for and achieving the best possible results for your hair.

Salt and Chocolate Nail Bar, South Kensington

Salt and Chocolate nail bar stands out from the crowd, not only because of its quirky name but also because of the high quality and thorough nail treatments on offer.

I spent over an hour in the salon receiving the most indulgent manicure from an expert beautician. It being located a short walk from South Kensington tube, I could definitely get used to having Salt and Chocolate as my local nail bar.

S&C has an extensive range of Opi and Essie colours on offer allowing customers to choose any hue they desire. After the usual debate of bright or dark, pastel or shimmer – I opted for a unique shade of pastel pea green, an unusual colour from Opi.

I tried the Sweet and Salty Luxury Manicure, the most indulgent treatment on the menu! After all the usual nail preening and trimming, my therapist gave me the most invigorating and relaxing hand and arm massage I have ever had. After my hands were suitably soft the painting began. Due to its iridescence, I needed to have three coats of the green varnish so that the colour appeared as creamy and rich as on the bottle.

I was impressed with the gorgeous range of special homemade products. The Lavender Salt and Honey Scrub left my hands super silky and smooth and removed all dead skin after only one use. This exfoliator scrub comes in two ‘flavours’, I was lucky enough to take home a small pot of the lemon variant.

I have no doubts that Salt & Chocolate will continue to thrive, London needs more nail bars like this!

New York Manicure, The Chelsea Day Spa

After discovering a real lack of nail bars in London, I’ve been on the hunt for places to indulge my fingers and toes. Satisfying the endless needs of Chelsea girls, The Chelsea Day Spa provides a huge variety of services: facials, waxing, eye treatments, nail therapies and massages.

The Spa opened in October 2011 on chic Hollywood Road. Sister spa to the popular The Chelsea Day Spa on King’s Road, this smaller venue is quieter and more discreet, the ideal place for a morning of pampering. It is an intimate and relaxing venue with carefully chosen ranges of face, body and nail treatments and products, three cosy treatment rooms and nail bar. There is a team of highly qualified therapists who perform the luxurious treatments.

The Chelsea Day Spa Boutique also offers basic grooming and express treatments for both men and women which include waxing with Perron Rigot, eyelash and brow tinting, plus express manicures, pedicures and ‘everlasting’ gels with Jessica. Light refreshments are available for visitors; parched after my manicure I tasted their delicious orange hinted water.

I tried the very popular New York manicure which is an ongoing offer – a high gloss, low cost, speedy treatment to smarten up your nails.

My expert beautician carefully soaked, cut, filed and shaped my nails working on my cuticles, with a lovely hand massage, moisturising and polish. Apparently while sitting in the nail bar you can watch various episodes of Sex and The City and enjoy light refreshments but sadly none of this was offered to me. The manicurist was efficient but I was a little disappointed that she wasn’t more friendly, she seemed distracted and barely spoke to me at all, maybe she was just concentrating on my nails, which she tidied and polished immaculately. The brightly coloured Jessica nail polishes on display looked great ordered by colour. I was very indecisive choosing a colour but I eventually opted for a vibrant pink with funky dark purple tips.
