There is something very special about macarons… opening up a box to reveal a selection of brightly coloured jewels, each delicately flavoured. There are so many French patisseries who now have homes in London, from old-school traditionalists to quirky modern options. Pierre Hermé is without a doubt one of the finest, with several shop branches, including a boutique in Belgravia.

This small shop is packed full of sweet treats. At this time of year you can expect to find Marron glacé (candied chestnuts) in store which Pierre has created in a range of flavours from clementine to chocolate and rose. Buy an Award-winning Christmas cake including Stollen – a brioche dough with spices, almond paste and dried and candied fruits. Best of all though, is the limited edition festive flavours of the famous macarons.

Never one to shy away from bold flavours, this year Pierre Hermé has introduced his most daring Christmas flavours yet, named Les Adorables, pairing exceptional savoury ingredients with luxurious sweet notes.
The Macaron Caviar Petrossian is the result of Pierre’s encounter with Armen Petrossian, a French businessman who works in the caviar industry. The sparkling silver macaron is a combination of salty caviar and fresh nuttiness from the walnuts.
Truffe Blanche & Noisette is a pristine white macaron which combines the flavours of white truffle and Roasted Piedmont Hazelnut Slivers. The two earthy flavours match perfectly. These special macarons have to be packaged separately to avoid the intense truffle flavour spreading to the whole box.
For the extra indulgent macaron lover, Pierre has introduced a Chocolat & Foie Gras flavour, while British tea addicts will enjoy the Datte & Thé Earl Grey edition.
My favourites from the collection were the Infiniment Mandarine and the Framboise & Pain D’épices, both of which bring out the spiced fruity flavours that remind me so much of the festive season.

For a touch of Parisian perfection at Christmas, treat yourself to a box of Pierre Hermé Christmas macarons. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t enjoy finding a box like this under the tree!
