Mandarin Oriental Spa, Prague

There are a few really special hotels in Prague, one of which is the Mandarin Oriental, known for its fabulous spa. Discreet and stylish, this hotel doesn’t need to boast about its luxurious status to be recognised as a top accommodation spot. Located just off the west bank of the river by the famous Charles Bridge, it is a picturesque and scenic setting, blissfully quiet in comparison with the busy city centre. The serene spa offers a retreat in which to relax and indulge oneself whether a guest at the hotel or a visitor.

After changing into a soft robe, I was escorted into a treatment room. I was lucky enough to be trying out one of the favourite facials. My therapist was instantly accommodating, considering my needs at every stage of the treatment. She used the expert Gaylia Kristensen products, a famous brand highly admired by beauty specialists all over.

It was an intensely hydrating and moisturising facial. First my skin was gently cleansed, steamed and exfoliated. A rich mask was then used to encase and soothe. When the rubber mask was peeled away my skin felt refreshed and revitalised. The final “dream” cream brightened and plumped my skin to reveal a glowing complexion.

She kindly listed the essential products particularly needed to maintain a healthy glow. The lovely changing rooms and facilities at Mandarin Oriental make sure one’s enjoyment continues for every moment spent at the spa.

After a power shower, I left Mandarin Oriental feeling lighter, brighter and healthier, even an hour at this spa will revolutionise your day. The Mandarin Oriental in Prague is a must for all spa lovers.

Hot on the Highstreet Week 162

I recently spent a weekend in Prague. It is always intriguing to discover a new country, and much like other cities I found the Czech high street offered an indication of the culture, trends and style of the local people. I wanted to tell you about my three favourite shops I found hidden amongst the Prague highstreet.

SIMPLE CONCEPT STORE

Modelled on the original Parisian concept boutique, Colette (which I love), Simple Concept Store follows the same principle, stocking a wide range of thoughtfully curated designed products. If you look carefully you can spot a few rare Czech contributions at this fashion emporium. The main labels are French fashion houses such as Celine, Chloe and Yves Saint Laurent, but I particularly loved the Acne additions and Lanvin ballet shoes. There is even a champagne bar for weary shoppers.

PAPELOTE

Founded by Czech graphic designer and illustrator Katerina Sachova, her photography husband Filip Sach and their friend Denisa Havrdova. Papelote sell a quirky and colourful range of recycled paper, notebooks and pencil cases to brighten up any office desk. The walls have been stripped back to expose layers of plaster, and the vaulted ceilings have been coloured with Papelote wrapping paper. The most attractive gifts are the store’s own range of stationery and roll up pencil cases… This shop is a must for stationery lovers.

DOX

Dox is the coolest museum I discovered in Prague. It is a little out of the main city centre, but is well worth searching for. This Centre for Contemporary Art was opened in 2008 and is one of the few independent Czech art institutions. The brilliant gallery shops here sell edgy items, fun gifts, glass and porcelain products curated by Qubus Studio and an excellent selection of vintage design magazines.
