“Katie Hillier’s quirky jewellery, finely crafted accessories, and coveted handbags regularly adorn the runways for some of fashion’s most respected and influential designers and luxury houses. Consultant to Victoria Beckham, Joseph and Asprey and, most recently, appointed Creative Director of Marc By Marc Jacobs, her strong design aesthetic has been dubbed, ‘Luxury with a wink’.

HILLIER, Katie’s singular jewellery and hair accessories brand, sees this expressed in its quintessential form. Continuing Katie’s unmistakable style, which combines excellence in craftsmanship with a generous amount of cheeky spirit, HILLIER launched with a fine jewellery collection of unique 18-carat animal pendant paperclips and luxury hair accessories shaped into darling, playful woodland creatures. Within a short space of time these British Treasures were spotted adorning celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and Alexa Chung and appearing in the glossy pages of Katie’s favourite magazines and newspapers.”

The jewellery is playful and pretty, made of the highest quality materials. My favourite pieces are the ‘doodle-like’ animal necklaces. This unique collection of animal pendant paperclips are 18-carat gold wire twists shaped into cheeky woodland creatures. The signature Hillier Bunny has established itself as a brand icon and here Bunny is joined by a set of quintessentially British friends; Squirrel, Bambi, Snail and Bumble Bee are all hand-crafted artisanal pieces, each set with a diamond eye available in a rainbow of colours. Continuing on with my alphabet obsession, I have to also mention the fab alphabet paperclip necklaces, the perfect personalised present for someone special.

Those who favour simpler, classic jewellery will love the dainty ‘Pretty rings’ available in 18ct Gold with colour diamonds accenting the delicate ring.

The Hillier range is great for all ages, a touch of luxury for a young girl, or a sparkle of playful youth for the older customer.

The idea for Dodo was born in Mauritius, the island where the real dodo once lived. They were inspired by the story of the funny, flightless bird and charmed by the way the locals strung shells together to create keepsakes. And so, Pomellato, one of the world’s most famous jewellers, created charms to celebrate the dodo (and all the other creatures on the planet). Each 18 kt gold charm has a special meaning – one can collect Dodo charms and create a unique necklace or bracelet to tell one’s story. Collectors mix gold and silver and stack rows of bracelets and necklaces.

There are hundreds of charms to choose from, to mark every occasion, celebrate every event and suit everyone. The miniature animals are perhaps the most popular, each creature signifies a different emotion or theme, but letters and symbols are available too. Dodo also makes beautiful chains to hang your charms from (if you choose to neglect the thick cord they come with) and rings to personalise with your own message.

Dodo’s new rose gold charm – a little house that looks like it was designed for a child – can coax a smile from the sternest Nordic designer, soften the heart of the most supercilious journalist or be spotted adorning the trendiest designer.

I was given a very special (and meaningful) little rose gold Dodo house charm as a present to celebrate / lament me moving out of home. It now hangs perfectly from my yellow gold bracelet, a lovely memory of my family home and in anticipation of my first adult flat.

The Dodo brand is simple and classic with an endearing story to tell. I love my little house and will forever remember what it signifies… home is where the heart is.

The gold charms are priced around £125 each and can be bought in the shop at 31 Sloane Square, or online here.

For me the little details at Christmas lunch matter immensely… enough roast potatoes, my dad’s delicious creamy cheesy leeks and plenty of crackers to add excitement round the table. We’ve tried ‘make your own’ crackers before, but knowing all the gifts inside slightly taints the surprise. For Christmas 2012 I was delighted to discover my favourite jewellery designers Tatty Devine have brought out a set of ‘make your own jewellery’ deluxe crackers.

The Tatty Devine pack includes six luxury Christmas crackers with everything you need for the ultimate crafty Christmas. Each cracker features a different perspex shape. Pull the crackers to discover chains, jump rings and instructions to make the shapes into six necklaces. Included are jewellery-making pliers to share and jewellery boxes, and of course the traditional party hat and joke!

These handmade crackers will add colour and excitement to any Christmas meal and will bring family and friends together. Although they are pricey (£75 for six), considering the worth of the gifts inside it is well worth the cost. These crackers would be perfect for a girly Christmas dinner… forget the presents and instead pull the Tatty Devine crackers to reveal six easy to make, fun designs to make your very own necklaces.
