Getting round London with UbiCabs

ubiCabs is London’s new minicab booking service, available online, on iPhone and on Android. Using the web booker or one of the ubiCabs apps, just a few clicks will find you a price compared minicab, chosen through user ratings to find the most trusted companies. The process works in a similar way to SkyScanner flight comparison site.

With ubiCabs you can place and manage bookings, track drivers and share your location when you’re in the car, it hopes to be the most convenient and precise taxi service yet. ubiCabs makes it easier for you to find a good value, licensed minicab in London, even in peak hours. Available nationwide it is ideal for bloggers on the go in need of a quick commuting service or a cheap car to get around town.

My friends and I booked through UbiCabs last weekend after a night out in Kilburn. The concept seemed perfect: cheap, easy and quick. It was 1am and pouring with rain; all we wanted was a warm ride and to be home as soon as possible. I had already downloaded the UbiCabs app on my iphone in preparation and it was easy to use… just follow the instructions, wait for the evaluation and a price and company will appear on the screen, click to book and it should be on its way. Sadly the night we booked a system failure was blighting the service. After 45 minutes shivering at a lonely bus stop and six cancellations later a taxi seemed a bleak possibility.

One last attempt and the website worked, the car arrived and we were carried safely home to bed. The car was incredibly reasonably priced and the taxi driver could not be faulted (he even provided witty banter). However the long wait left us frustrated and disgruntled. The next day I received a consolatory £5 credit into my account in apology for the erroneously cancelled booking.

UbiCabs is a brilliant idea, but sadly after such a dodgy first experience, I am a little wary of using the company again.
