I often walk past the stone guru that guards the Thai Square Spa in Covent Garden, and yet when sent to review, I got completely lost and arrived embarrassingly late. Puffing and panting and disgustingly sweaty, I was welcomed in by the lovely staff who all have a disarmingly calm manner. I felt immediately relaxed and at ease.
The spa is a wondrous emporium, a beautifully arranged space offering visitors a full sensory experience. It is a truly indulgent place, mystical and exotic. It specialises in bringing traditional Thai treatments to London and has various divine facilities including seven treatment rooms, two luxury copper baths and a mosaic steam Rasul suite.
I was treated to a traditional Thai Body Bliss Ritual Massage, an invigorating and deeply relaxing full body massage that I’m sure my stressed body has been long craving. I was shown downstairs to remove my shoes, change into a silky gown and slippers ready to indulge in the experience of the spa. The treatment began with a floral foot soak, my feet were plunged into a terracotta bowl of soothing warm soapy water with rose petals and herbs. Before lying down, I was given a cup of sweet natural ginger and honey tea, delicious and warming.
I remember lying face down in luxurious bliss and thinking vividly to myself: ‘I must go to Thailand soon – because in Thailand they have the three best things: sunny weather, delicious curries and wonderful massages’. My lovely therapist was clearly an expert, applying hard pressure and massaging out all the tight creases and knots in my back. Beginning on my back and then working on my legs, arms, neck and head. I encouraged the vigorous massage in the hope that my back would feel totally relaxed and loose, and (I think) at one point she even walked across my back cracking the knots satisfyingly, but I may have been dreaming. The Thai Square Spa use Erb products, a premium natural skincare range inspired by ancient Thai herbal remedies and rituals. The range was launched in Thailand in 2000 and it is already recognised as one of the country’s top skincare brands. These natural Thai products are dedicated to the wellbeing of the mind, body and soul. The natural oils used on my back were amazing, rebalancing and healing.
Sitting in the wooden relaxation room after my treatment, with another cup of ginger and honey tea in hand, I savoured the tranquil and luxurious surroundings before having to return to the real world.
