It is amazing how the food delivery scene has transformed in recent years to encourage people to cook culinary creations from fine ingredients at home. Gourmio is one of the companies leading this revolution delivering high quality ready-to-cook Italian dishes to your door, so you learn new regional recipes whilst also cooking with the best produce (all sourced from Italy).
Gourmio has been delivering delicious boxes of food since January 2016. The company sources all their ingredients by collaborating with the best chefs in Italy.
Our chef says: “We look for a key ingredient, taking into account the story of that ingredient, the geographic zone and the excellence of the product. Dishes are a balance of innovation and tradition and we try to make our recipes easy to recreate with excellent results. We also want space for creativity for those of you who prefer not to follow strict guidelines!”
Gourmio selects the best ingredients from farms and artisan producers from across Italy and aim to reduce the preparation time of your food whilst simultaneously allowing you to create the best Italian recipes to try at home. Everything is made and sent to you in 24 hours and ready to eat!
The recipes are all selected with seasonality in mind, the ingredients chosen capture the essence of the season whilst also representing traditional dishes from all over the country. Currently on the menu is ‘Octopus Elba Style’ a delicious fresh seafood starter and ‘Roast Pork in wild fennel’ a hearty but summery main course. The starters tend to cost £10 for two, and main dishes are around £15 for two.
Soon Gourmio will be launching a new concept called the “learning boxes”. These boxes will include exclusive Italian ingredients and recipes that are reinterpreted and redesigned by top Italian chefs. This offering will be available to purchase by subscription.
How Gourmio Began…
Marco, Giorgio and Claudio started Gourmio’s traditional Italian recipe boxes in 2011 in Puglia, a vast and beautiful agricultural region in the ‘heel’ of Italy. Marco Sargiani was on holiday here and went to eat in a typical rustic restaurant where the food is simple yet delicious and the chef uses traditional local ingredients.
Marco ordered burrata, the special cheese of Puglia, and as he took his first bite he had his eureka moment that grew the seed of Gourmio. He wondered why authentic Italian ingredients like this were not very accessible abroad. Marco himself comes from a family who have produced aceto balsamico vinegar in Modena since 1700 and do not export abroad either.
Back at his hotel he couldn’t sleep but instead of counting sheep Marco went on the internet and started buying domain names. “DOP is Italian for Protected Denomination of Origin so I bought edop.com, edop.eu, edop everything,” he recalls. Marco’s original idea was for edop to be like ‘ebay’ but instead of trading clothes it would trade authentic Italian ingredients like salami, cheese, pasta and meat.
