The Artist Residence boutique hotels are full of character and homeliness. I loved visiting the London and Cornwall properties, so was excited to see the new Oxfordshire abode. The newest Artist Residence opened just a few months ago in the countryside just 20 minutes drive from Oxford and 1.5 hours drive from London.
Along with a group of lovely lifestyle bloggers I was picked up bright and early by a sparkling Landrover car and we all set off on our day trip adventure.
When you walk inside an Artist Residence property you immediately feel a sense of place thanks to the charming decor and welcoming interiors. The Oxford residence is no different with vintage signposts and eclectic soft furnishings.
We got a glimpse of the bedrooms which are relaxed and stylish, with large indulgent bathrooms and beautiful views of the verdant surroundings. I’m hoping to return soon and experience the rooms in more detail, so stay tuned…
This occasion was all about food and flowers. A long, magical trestle table had been set up outside for our al fresco lunch sampling the new hotel menu, and inside Bloom & Wild were setting up an atmospheric ‘Dutch Masters’ floral tutorial.
The pub at Artist Residence Oxford is called Mr Hanbury’s Masons Arms and offers a menu of inventive, seasonal dishes. We tried the summery Laverstoke Mozzarella with peas, broad beans and mint and tasty scotch eggs, before being serving a lavish main course of lamb wellington and sides. The lamb was cooked to perfection and coated in a delicious buttery pastry… it felt like such a treat.
After lunch, lots of glasses of rosé, and much chatting and laughter later it was time for our flower class with the talented Rowan Blossom and Bloom & Wild. Rowan offered advice on how to present a bunch of varied flowers as an ideal dinner party centrepiece. She illustrated how to use different flowers to complement each other and work in harmony. There was a bounteous selection of seasonal flowers and plants to choose from and we all had great fun trying to create something as beautiful as her bouquet!
As we stepped into our glamorous Landrover for the ride home we all agreed the day had flown by much too quickly and promised to return soon to Oxford to see more of this beautiful boutique residence.
