It’s no secret that there is a real shortage of decent takeaway options in London. In Peckham I’m particularly proud of Ganapati which offers South Indian cuisine, but there is little else to choose from when it comes to delivered-to-your-door dining.
I’d heard about Motu months ago from foodie friends. From the founders of Gymkhana, one of London’s most celebrated Indian restaurants, comes a food delivery serves which promises Michelin-star quality food in the comfort of your own home.
The menu was instantly interesting to me… a small selection of favourites and creative recipes from classic Chicken Tikka Masala to Chana Masala, a punjabi chickpea curry. We chose the convenient ‘feast box for two’ which includes two main dishes of your choice and comes with kachumber raita, 2 pappadums, mango chutney, 2 naan and two pilau rice. And added Kashmiri chilli chicken tikka, keema naan and a ‘side combo’ of aubergine masala, tadka dahl and samosa chat.
It was a feast for the all the senses when the Motu delivery arrived. I have eaten at Gymkhana and Hoppers and can truly testify that this reasonably priced, takeaway food is of a similar standard.
The Kashmiri Lamb shank Rogan Josh was sensational, a tender piece of lamb which fell away from the bone, and a thick rich sauce that was comforting to consume. I love paneer but rarely enjoy the versions of this Indian cheese found in London restaurants. The Motu Paneer Butter Masala was exquisite, thick smoked pieces of tandoori paneer served in an indulgent creamy sauce. Other highlights included the chilli chicken tikka and the tadka dal.
Motu is a truly unique concept, offering fine dining Indian food to Londoners to enjoy from the comfort of their own home without the hefty central London pricetag.
